energywatch: It's easy to switch tariffs

It is "easy" for gas and electricity customers to change their tariffs or switch to a different energy provider, according to the UK's watchdog.

energywatch also stated that consumers who are thinking about switching to a different supplier in the light of recent and predicted price increases should use the body's Confidence Code to get the best deal available to them.

A spokesperson added that it was understandable that other energy suppliers are set to follow npower's lead and boost their prices, but pointed out that customers should be patient.

"Historically, the companies introduce price rises at much the same time," she explained.

"Consumers are advised to wait until the dust settles over the next few months before seeking out the best deal."

npower's decision to increase its domestic tariffs by an average of 12.7 per cent for electricity and 17.2 per cent for gas was described by the company's residential managing director, Giuseppe Di Vita, as "not an easy one" to make.ADNFCR-1054-ID-18418874-ADNFCR
